Squidward takes a trip inside the imagination box and must rely on SpongeBob and Patrick's creativity in order to escape.

Managed to catch this using YouTube TV's free 20 minute preview (yay!). It was fine but wasn't a very funny episode. Just sort of felt like stuff happened and there wasn't really much else in terms of jokes and story. 6.5/10 (maybe)

I don’t know how to describe it, but a lot of late S13 and early S14 (including this episode) have felt really…”slow”, I guess you could say. It doesn’t feel as vibrant and alive as Seasons 10-12 did. It doesn’t even have as many funny jokes. I wonder why. I think this would’ve been much better if it was in Season 11.

Very disappointing episode. All this is, is just
SpongeBob and Patrick unintentionally ruining Squidward's imaginations
for 11 minutes. There's also no real conclusion. I don't usually give numbers, but here I'll say it's maybe a 4/10 or 4.5/10, MAYBE a 5/10. The main thing that kinda annoys me about this episode is how it could've gone in a so much better direction, but instead they went with this bland one.

Edit: as of 2/26/2024 my rating of this episode is around 3.5/10 (which is crazy low for me because I usually keep things between 4.5 and 9; there are only like 2 or 3 SB episodes in my opinion that deserve a rating under 4)

Edit (as of 4/6/2024): Nvm I was too harsh on it. It's still a 4.5. one of my 3 least favorite episodes of the show, along with Something Narwhal and Upturn Girls, both a 4.5

I was looking forward to seeing how they did what was essentially a "sequel" to Idiot Box but this was pretty disappointing. What was the point of having a repair center for imagination boxes? To me this completely missed what Idiot Box was about. The concept of that episode was that SpongeBob and Patrick took something as mundane as a TV box and used their imaginations to have fun with it. The box didn't really have any crazy mystical powers like what's portrayed here. 5/10

I really don't agree with all the backlash in this episode. It feels like a creative pitstop for the show and really has a plot that doesn't need to make sense, but is entertaining either way.

Great - 8.5/10

Really? this episode? this is a bad sequel to idiot box? while as a kid i was never really a fan of idiot box i really haven't re watched the episode its not THAT bad its just mostly nostalgia blind people or dumb people who don't watch the episode and just hate it saying that modern spongebob is bad and it should have ended after the movie and to those dear people: DO ACTUAL CRITICISM INSTEAD OF NOT ACTUAL CRITICISM That DOES NOT HELP THE SHOW AT ALL SO PLEASE ACTUALLY WATCH IT

Not gonna lie. This is the worst episode in the entire show for me, it has so many problems. The plot is basically non-existant, SpongeBob and Patrick are extremely out of character and most of the jokes are just Squidward getting hurt. 1/10 (Abysmal)

  1. Spongechovy (10/10)
  2. Bassward (9.5/10)
  3. We ❤️ Hoops (8.5/10)
  4. Squidiot Box (8/10)
  5. Buff For Puff (7.5/10)
  6. Single Celled Defense (6.5/10)

This felt like it kind of retconned the original episode...by (seemingly) trying to imply that you can make things appear within the imagination box, when in the original episode they seem to imply that everything was just in their imagination & wasn't really happening.

Not gonna do another edit here, instead I'm doing a new post..

yeah I no longer dislike this episode. I still don't LIKE it, but I don't dislike it. I do think it deserves a 5/10 from me. Honestly I don't think I dislike any main show episodes now

I watched this episode last night as well... and the more I think about it, the more I dislike it. Just like BassWard, the episode definitely has interesting intentions, but it quickly devolves into another 11 minutes of lazy writing and unwarranted Squidward Torture. The characters' lines all feel sloppily written, and the whole idea of the "imagination box" being repaired just defeats the point of the original "Idiot Box." Of course, having Squidward use his imagination to explore different worlds might seem like a good idea, but the writers just don't go anywhere with it. The jungle scene feels very dragged out, and of course, SpongeBob and Patrick keep making it worse for no reason. And when Squidward imagines the jazz club, you already know it's going to go wrong. Because he can never just catch a break. At least DoodleBob returns, but only for the sake of more uninspired Squidward torture. How cool. The ending is nothing notable either- Squidward gets stuck in the box... but I guess if he's happy with it, then that's fine.

Overall, this episode does not do the original "Idiot Box" justice, and I would probably not watch this episode again for a while. I could keep talking about it, but I'll just cap off this quick review with a rating of Poor (7/20). Not good.
