285a. Delivery to Monster Island

This was a decent one with some great gags and the Plankton/SpongeBob dynamic was neat. It sorta borders on a 6.5, it's not all that amazing or anything, and the plot is quite thin jumping from one thing to the next, but overall it is definitely a good experience. 7/10

I rated this episode 8/10 at the watch party. Some parts made me laugh, and they include:
  • The 80 minute journey
  • Spob's 6 year absence
Overall, this is a great episode but not as great as...

I said to myself "oh, this is a Plankton episode?" the second he came onscreen.

Man this episode was violent. Plankton had his eye poked out, got torn in half, and was literally digested on screen at the end, while SpongeBob had his skin ripped off. Like seriously, there was a lot. The episode was okay though, I liked the concept and some parts were decently funny. Some things were predictable like the cave being a monster, but they did change things up a little bit this time around. I'm glad they did this with Plankton and not some other character like Patrick, because it allows for a unique character dynamic between him & SpongeBob. But mostly, I'm just glad this wasn't about the two of them trying not to eat their only food so they can sell it, like in Pizza Delivery and Food Con Castaways and a number of other delivery episodes this show has done in the past. However, that ending was a bit too much imo.

It was alright. I'll give it a 7/10.

It's a pretty decent watch overall but some of this stuff was pretty unnecessary.

My favorite episode of the season, even though there's no logical reason for me to prefer it over Ride Patrick Ride. But this episode just gave me a feeling I haven't felt for years while watching SpongeBob. I love this episode.

no longer my fav of S13 but still great

I am surprised I didn't post here yet...

But anyway this is a clever episode but it's not as good as I predicted the concept is clever but it was a bit rushed still a good episode though!

8/10 Great

I really like this episode conceptually! I think it was a great idea with amazing potential, and the bits and themes included were well thought-out and quite entertaining. I do feel however that the episode's pacing may have been a bit too fast, so it felt like everything was squashed into a smaller timeframe which broke the vibes of some scenes - great Plankton and SpongeBob interaction, though! I believe the ep could've benefitted from being longer, thought. I think it would've made for a great special tbh

“Delivery to Monster Island” is an episode that I’ve been hyped for ever since I first heard about it. And that’s because, when I was little, I LOVED playing the Monster Island game on Nick.com. And then when they made a second one??? I was all over that bad boy. But back to the first game, it was one of those games that released in “episodes” or chapters, and the last “chapter” didn’t even conclude the story! And I could never even beat the last level so I didn’t even get that far into the cliffhanger! So I was of course, a very fuming child after that. I don’t think this episode is going to be the one to conclude that story, or even make reference to the games beyond the title, but if it does even a smidgen of that, I will be a very happy Pugs.

Been a while since we’ve seen a “Patrick doesn’t know what to order” joke, I feel like. Or maybe it happened recently and I just didn’t think about it. Who knows. But to me it feels like it’s been a while, and that’s what matters. And…sigh…see I already knew that Plankton would be in this episode, but three Plankton episodes in a row is really making me yawn. And yeah yeah yeah, I never have a problem with SpongeBob being in every episode, so why Plankton, and that’s because SpongeBob is the main character out of all the main characters. He’s designed to be able to work in every episode. You know the complaint that MCs are boring and the other characters are more interesting? Well, ignoring how I disagree with that complaint, I think where it’s coming from is the fact that main characters are designed so that we can follow them every episode without getting sick of them. That means giving them a base personality that can bounce off of everyone and everything, and not too much “pizzazz” that we get sick of it. That’s not to say that SpongeBob is a boring character, because he’s far from that. But he’s crafted in such a way that we never get sick of him (or at least I don’t, idk about y’all).

Alright, moving on from that little tangent, Plankton tries to steal a patty but is stopped by SpongeBob, who doesn’t realize Plankton is stealing a patty despite him using his most common M.O. from season 1 lol. He packs the patty (and Plankton) into a delivery order that he’s making. Which requires a whole bunch of travel methods…just to go next door. I’m calling this a “Pizza Delivery” reference and you can’t stop me. SpongeBob doesn’t get to make the delivery though, as a gust of wind carries him away. Smh, SpongeBob needs to get swole. The wind ends up blowing SpongeBob and Plankton to Monster Island. And it doesn’t even look like the games, smh. Y’all are hurting my heart rn.

Eventually, SpongeBob figures out that he’s stuck on the island with Plankton. And after a short little fight scene, he finds out that he’s on the island with monsters too. So then the two run for their lives, managing somehow to survive even though the two of them put together are very stupid lol. Both of them being idiots together is quite entertaining though. Like when they end up getting impaled by the giant thorns, or go into the really dark “cave”. Yeah, it’s an old joke, but a goodie. Poor SpongeBob and Plankton are terrorized on this dang island, can’t even get a bite to eat without it turning out to be sentient. I did like seeing SpongeBob fight back though. Somehow SpongeBob’s fighting back gives SpongeBob and Plankton the idea to introduce capitalism to Monster Island. You see why capitalism is a disease?

SpongeBob and Plankton being business partners is pretty fun though, I must admit. And I loved this little moment with SpongeBob looking at his drawing of Gary…y’all knew I just had to say something about that. And then this heartwarming moment is of course followed by Plankton’s humorous version of the same thing with the secret formula. And Plankton’s had enough of the island, so he and SpongeBob hatch a plan to get outta there without the monsters noticing. Well now I’m just thinking of the first movie. The two manage to get away, and I honestly never got the vibe that the monsters were making any threats to them until they started trying to leave, but okay. And anyway it turns out that their escape wasn’t that easy, because the entire island itself is alive, Lion Turtle style, and so they end up bringing it to Bikini Bottom. Also turns out SpongeBob’s been gone for 6 years???? Alright. And hey, with the raft landing right where the Krusty Krab used to be, at least Patrick finally figured out what he wanted to eat. And Plankton dies a very acidic death. Oh my.

“Delivery to Monster Island” was…alright. It wasn’t exactly…good? Like, nothing here was really all that funny to me except for maybe a couple jokes. The plot was also rather weak in multiple places for multiple reasons. It was just kind of a meh episode. And perhaps I’m also disappointed by the complete lack of references to the game I loved so long ago. Like ‘how dare you stand where he once stood’ type energy.

Episode Tier: Okay
Episode Score: 6.5/10
