After seeing a special this morning on some baseball show (if I can find it I will post it here, it was just new this morning) that pitchers are being hit by line drives, and the damage is serious. There is one pitcher who's gone to inside protection within the cap, while Alex Torres has gone to this which has been tested safe for 83 MPH (the average speed of a line drive)

Should pitchers wear this even if it looks rediculous? As much as it looks hilarious, I say yes until they can find a better protection. (This still leaves 60% of the head available for being hit, I heard they're going to try something with a visor as well)

I found this post title suggestive

I think they should look into some sort of lightweight helmet first before they mandate those atrocities.

What's wrong with the appearance of it? -_~
If I were a pitcher I wouldn't care about the style as long as it protected my head.

I've noticed this a lot lately too. I guess some protection is better than none, until they come up with something better. Something for batters might not be a bad idea either, though it would get in the way of swinging and running.

Maybe pull back the mound another 10 feet or so. Or have the batter auto out for hitting the pitcher. :P

I say you make some variations and make it optional to wear or not. To me, it seems like the best course for right now, because Alex Torres (the player above) looks like a new Super Mario Brother
