Stupid Question About Character Design

This is a really dumb question, maybe someone artsy can answer it for me

how is it physically possible for Spongebob to shove his feet into those weirdly-drawn shoes?



His shoes are drawn in a very stylized manner, but we've seen that his feet are just... normal person feet.
 
He's a sponge. His body is very flexible and he can squish himself into all kind of places without discomfort if he needs to. Those stylish black shoes are obviously very important to him so he's willing to cram his feet into them for the sake of looking smart. A sponge has to look his spongiest.

Inside his shoe is a human feet mold. Artist's impression:

Because he's a sponge, continuous use of this shoe results in his feet resembling human feet.
