I can imagine them surviving a long time, but that is a SERIOUSLY long time to survive without being in water.

Seriously, what kept them going so long?
*Note: This topic has mostly been created to spite President Squidward. End note*

lol k

Speaking of that scene when they 'died', it really kinda does make me tear a little, but today it made me think:

"How did SpongeBob and Patrick feel inside before they died for 30 seconds? Were they scared at all? Did they think about all the memories they had? Did they go to heaven or heck? Did they feel happy that they were dying together?"

And then I realized that I was taking that thought too far. :P

They weren't really without water for that long now that I think about it. They stayed in the fish bowl until they were taken to the lamp. Then after the lamp scene the sprinklers were on, so that kept them wet. On the beach they were quite close to the water and got splashed by the waves. Riding Hasselhoff is when they should have dried out if they were going to (except for the dying scene, of course), because travelling at that speed through air would have dehydrated them quite quickly, though maybe they got splashed enough by the surf to make up for it.

Well, I'd say E.V.I.L and DMAP summed it up for you perfectly. I agree with both.

Maybe they maintained enough moisture inside them to stay alive for so long.

I mentioned this theory before in chat, but I'll mention it again here.

My theory is that what keeps SpongeBob and Patrick alive is by standing on a watery material surface. I'm gonna take a couple of episodes to proof this.
In 'Survival of the Idiots', SpongeBob and Patrick take their water helmets off in Sandy's house because of the snow surrounding the place is made from water. For most of the time, the snow doesn't seem to be falling, but yet for a strange reason, they're still breathing. This is because they were most of the time standing on the snow, which is a watery material. You could argue that SpongeBob and Patick also were also in Sandy's room (tree), but it's possible the snow gave them enough time to breath water. In 'Pressure', SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Mr. Krabs are able to complete Sandy's challenge because of them standing on sand, which is another material made from water. This explains in the movie, after they leave Shell City, they're still able to breath from standing on the beach sand.

The explaniation for the second movie is like I make my theory, the sea critters can breath on land as long as they are on the sand. They only start walking on non-watery ground when they become super heroes, stating that one of the powers they've been given is the ability to breath air.

I rest my case.

What I really wonder is about the newest movie, the trailer looks like they all spend a lot of time out of the sea.. and without water helmets.

Now, cabs and octopi can, in fact, spend a lot of time without water - yes, octopi can.. The people who have octopi in aquariums complain about this, as they have to do an octopus head count every morning and find the octopi every where. I have read that they can only hold out for half an hour, but have also read stories where they were out of water for the whole night and, thou looking sick, were fine when put back into water. And they don't care too much if it's fresh or salt water... they go wherever they want.

About the second movie.. sand isn't neccesarily wet, though.

Is it wrong of me to think that these octopi sound kind of adorable? XD
and honestly, because they could breathe in Pressure, I would assume that it's the air

He survived longer in Tea at the Treedome.

Also, David Hasselhoff's sweat kept them wet. :P

I think they sound really adorable! Mischevious little buggers! :D

Oh, they've been known to go "hunting" in other aquariums at night, which means some shellfish tend to randomly go missing and the evidence is also hidden.

LOL! Yeah, it is. The keepers find these things in drawers, up walls near the ceilings, on book shelves.. All over the place. They're very curious buggers.

No wonder why Squidward and Squilliam are curious octopi? :P
