...or is Chum starting to look different?

Here it is in Spongicus:

And then here it is in It Came From Goo Lagoon:

I feel like they've made it way grosser recently.

Just the writer's usual "trying to gross us out" method. It works well, too, when I first saw the chum in ICFGG, I almost tossed the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I had eaten earlier.

Well, if you think about it, season 6 is actually pretty old now. The animators/storyboard artists used detail when characters' faces get graphically ripped off, but they didn't add detail in minor things like chum until season 8.

Even the frame from Goo Lagoon looks tame compared to let's say Squidward's bumps and pimples in "Choir Boys." RR Cory isn't on the show anymore so that's why you don't see as much grotesque stuff now.

Well chum is made out of fish parts, so...
No, that's just a rumour. In the one where Mr. Krabs was making SpongeBob make a gossip newspaper and Plankton saw that he said, "And I thought I was evil!"

Chum is made with fish parts in real life.

I'm pretty sure there was a recipe for chum recently... Maybe it was in my SB Experience book. Chum contains whale blubber as explained in one episode (cannibalism much?) so maybe it is bad? It also has seahorse snout if you consider that bad at all. (To be far sea cows/manatees, seahorse and etc are treated like domestic animals, so maybe eating them wouldn't be illegal? I mean it is illegal to eat horses in America...)

that recipe appeared in spongicus

Am I the only one not bothered and can barely tell the difference? I mean, chum IS nasty in general, but it DOES look more detailed in It Came From Goo Lagoon. I didn't notice it nor find it gross at all.

It looks more like a wrinkled flesh colored trash bag than anything else to be honest so yeah, I agree.

To be honest, until this thread, I hadn't noticed it myself... wasn't paying much attention to how chum looks in the series.
