So, yeah. I decided to abandon my revised top 100 for this. My BIGGEST list project.

So you might be wondering, "What so great about it? It's just another list made by the Roadie." Well, in other lists, What you see is what you get. The list maker will just post his choices with a review. In this list :

1. I will review and rate EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. From Help Wanted to Plankton's Pet. Which is currently the series' last episode. When a new episode arrives I will just review it and slip it in the list if it makes the the cut. One of the best thing about this list is that it will change if a new episode arrived.

2. After I rate the first 2 episodes, I will start building the list. The more episode I review, the bigger the list gets. And when it gets to 20, the list will stop growing and I will simply eliminate episodes if there is a new one with better ratings. I will update the list in every post. This list will not stop developing, changing and switching until the end of either; SpongeBob or my tenure in this website.

So you see, the reason why I call it "The Interactive Top 20" is because you guys (whoever cared) can scout the project while it grows rather than just expecting the finish product.

I will also look forward to YOUR opinions. And if you can elaborate your arguments on why an episode should or shouldn't be in the top 50, I might change my rating on the said episode (BUT ONLY IF I AGREE WITH YOUR ARGUMENT). So hopefully this interactive list can everyone happy and make everyone feel like they're a part of it.

I will also hope that with my new rating system I can produce a more accurate list. Usually I rate an episode as an entity of the show, causing many good post-movie episodes to be in a lower ranking because I rate it along the lines of pre-movie episodes.

Now, I rate episodes by each respective seasons. Episodes like Krabs a La Mode and Goo Goo Gas now has a chance to be a top 10 contender, since they're excellent episodes coming out of a horrid season.

I will also have a new style of reviewing. Usually I would barf out 8 paragraphs. Now, I'm just going to place the best points in hopes that you will read it all instead of just skimming, like I suspect you would.

Now I know this whole thing might perplex some members because it's a whole new way of listing episodes. Hopefully with the more episode I review, the list will get bigger and you'll soon understand.

P.S. Episodes under 3 minutes are considered as "shorts" and will not be classified as an episode. Therefore it will not have the rights to be reviewed.

Let's begin

EDIT : I changed the grading system to make it fair for post-movie episodes. I put them on lower standards.

Lets start this inventive list with episode 1a. Help Wanted. It's the episode where SpongeBob lands his mark on the Krusty Krab (and TV history) For a SpongeBob episode, this was predictable and basic. But again, this is the pilot episode. It's job is to give the audince a look on what will come. What this episode has is awkward pacing, absurd characters and a weird cheery Tiny Tim montage. I can't say it has a good or not premise since this is the first episode, but the main character landing a job for the first episode is rather a great start to a series. It finds versatility for years to come.

But most importantly, it hooked the audience with a main character that is enticing and refreshing as ever. A sponge kid who is always freakishly (in a good way) happy and cheerful. A refreshing tone for a network that showed "Ren and Stimpy" a couple of years before. So it's not a good episode, but it's an excellent starting point.

As if the audience haven't had enough of weird animals plotted as characters in this series, in came Sandra Cheeks. Is she a bird? No. Is she a plane? No. It's Sandy ... the squirrel. I have to say, Sandy's invention is a blockbuster prove at how brilliant and creative the old writers could be. And they pulled off an excellent shot at making an episode that ultimately showed issues on her making new friends under the sea.

Tea At The Treedome was very cleverly written. It is mind-blowingly entertaining to see SpongeBob dehydrating while trying to impress Sandy by doing an act that is solely invented and suggested by his dumb friend Patrick. TatT is proving to be the episode that attracts more viewers simply because it's clever and very funny. More importantly, it is a benchmark for all other episodes

The main point of a cartoon is entertainment. And when I say entertainment, I mean something to laugh at. When I judge an episode the first thing I looked into is "is the episode funny". If it isn't, it lost points. BIG points. If it is, then I'll just look at other relevant stuff. Humour is number 1, and this episode is case in point. As one of the earliest episodes, Bubblestand is imperfect. However, it's primary reason is to make the audience laugh, and it did so. The episode is basically just the 3 neighbors playing around bubble blowing. It's easy writing and completely one-dimensional. The only outlet of the episode that is actually good, is the humour. As a thorough episode analyst, that's not enough.

I like episodes that have simple plots, but I love an episode if it has a rather complex plot. This is simply too simple to be called a 'B'. I feel that it had better potential. However, the writers decided to make this episode just for fun. For people who just want to watch it for entertainment purposes, It's enough.

Bubblestand's partner in crime Ripped Pants. Is the complete opposite. Sacrificing the focus on humour, the writers made an episode that's sole focus is to spoon-fed viewers with a lesson. I wouldn't say it's lazy writing. I would say that the writers sacrificed laughs for moral. The episode itself is abruptly predictable. You can really see the characters as if they're actors reading a script for each scenario. The plot is just moving towards the lesson the writers planned. The scripting is incredibly clear and strong in this episode.

But I'm not going to lie, there are some parts that proves that SpongeBob is still able to deliver when the going gets tough. But one part stands tallest. The song. This just shows that this series is capable of the extraordinary. It's just disappointing that one of the show's best moment came from an episode that isn't very good.

Great choices so far! I was gonna ask where Reef Blower was, but re-read just in time. :P

I like this idea a lot!
I agree with you on all of them. I agree with everyone who thinks Ripped Pants is mediocre. The episode really isn't funny, it's repetitive and it's type of plot is always used in shows. The only part that's good is the song. The song is so inspiring. :p

Keep up the good work.

Keep the comments going, lads. I'm gonna have a roll.

The power trio. Basically, 3 characters that shone brightest in a series. The usual chemistry is that the deuteragonist is the protagonist's best friend and the tritagonist is either the protagonist's other best friend or a love interest. This power trio is special, though. It's not based on friendship, rather they're neighbors. And one of them doesn't even like the other 2.

Bubblestand is the first power trio episode, but this episode defines it. Exemplifying the relationship at how the relationship works. On the episode itself, it's as funny as Tea At The Treedome, but less clever. The invention of Jellyfishing is shrewd, but the episode is simpler than TatT. Still, the bondage and the chemistry of the 3 neighbors is the true highlight of the episode.

Plankton.jpg

Plankton stars in his debut. Unlike Sandy who was made into a plot device, Plankton rocked the audience with his sheer bodacity and hilarious lines. I'm stunned at how much I have underappreciate this episode. All these years of underrating it, I finally realised how much of a clever installment it was. It was epic, it was intense but most importantly it was hilarious.

Plankton's record player is a benchmark to all cartoon writers at how to use a gag to perfection. Brilliant timing, and far from overused. Overall, this episode was amazing. It wasn't exactly a one man show like Squid's Day Off, because the second-grade hero SpongeBob delivers. So did Squidward who played a small part. What was it? A massive debut for a future regular.

Oh, by the way. At the end of every season, I will have a review on the season itself and an average rating of the said season.

This is a great idea, and I'm glad that you really take the time to analyze each episode and their strong/weak points. I'll be following.

Plankton! is my favorite season 1 episode for basically all of the reasons you stated. Clever jokes, a great gag that isn't overused, and a wonderful introduction to the cutest super villain of all time. Plankton really stole the show in this episode. They did a great job developing his character in such a short amount of time, and nearly every line of his is hilarious.

I love this a lot. It's a great idea for all reasons PhillpB HarryPotterLives :P stated. I really would like to do one myself, but I didn't want to steal this great idea, so I won't (Unless maybe when this is finished > :) )
