I saw the box art for the next SpongeBob DVD boxset, and it came as a surprise, Nickelodeon is going to update their logo for the third time in their history. I think it looks great.

What are your thoughts on the new logo, seen on the bottom left corner and side of this SpongeBob DVD's box art?

Here's a close-up of the new logo.

I don't know (or believe) that that is their new all-around logo. It better not be, either - it looks hideous. Jack-in-the-Box recently changed their logo, and I don't really understand why; 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Yes, the new Jack-in-the-Box logo is very under-average from its previous one.

I also doubt they would get rid of their "splash" logo and effect, either. It's like their term signature.

That's also what they said about the new Pepsi logo. I'm sure that there will be a mixed reaction to this logo, as well. Maybe this will be unveiled during their 30th anniversary.

I think it looks good and simple.

I think Nickelodeon is aiming for a family entertainment-type format with a strong emphasis on kids and teens.

This new logo reminds me of the new Pepsi logos. Although the logos may change, the brand and product will stay the same.

I've also added a close-up of the new Nickelodeon logo.

i think its good. i'm fine with it

I don't really like it, they should stick with the orange splat.

I've just notice how the "i" in Nickelodeon honors the "i" in the NiCKELODEON pinball logo, much like the "e" in the new Pepsi logo honors the original Pepsi Globe's wavy design. It seems a lot of companies are going for a minimalist web2.0-based design these days. I think this logo would've looked great on the cover of Nickelodeon Magazine, but unfortunately, that magazine didn't survive long enough to get this new logo. At least it will look good in an on-air presentation, with the logo being as clean as a sponge, while keeping the orange color. I could possibly see great bumpers utilizing this logo, unlike what I saw with "Syfy." I really hope they keep the splat as part of the logo, in some instances, but have its color changed to green, since the the text is now orange, and to make the logo resemble green slime.

ehh, definitely not an improvement, then why change it? They should stick to their splash logo, this doesn't say "Nickelodeon" to me O_o

I'm not entirely sure why, but maybe Nickelodeon is in the midst of an identity crisis. I'm sure that I will adapt to this new logo, much like I adapted to to the new Pepsi logo. One logo I miss the most is the the previous logo for The Weather Channel, used from 1996 to 2005. Many of our companies go through the process of rebranding for many different reasons, like AT&T updating their "Death Star" logo shortly after the SBC-AT&T merger, as well as ShopKo, a discount store based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, only because they wanted to be an upscale Midwestern discount department store chain. Another instance of rebranding, is when Walmart changed from Wal-Mart with a new logo to boot. It sounds crazy, but it happens a lot, every ten, twenty, or thirty years with a lot of our logos.

Before you read this, just note; I have a tendency to hate logos at first but then grow used to them. This one is no exception.

So when I first saw this... well, actually I didn't do anything. I just looked at it. Went away from it, then came back with an opinion. I've sent the images and links to Brand New (the blog) so maybe they'll run a story on this.

Anyway, this looks very basic. It's much like going through a time portal. It looks like somebody went to the 70s, designed a new logo, then came back and said "THIS WAS ALL THE RAGE BACK THEN IT WILL BE ALL THE RAGE NOW TOO 70s IS BACK IN STYLEZ!!!!!!!!!1". Well, not literally that, but to some extent.

What's really sad is that the current/old logo could replace this "new" logo and it would make all the difference. A much-needed modern update to this old 70s-style design. Oh wait, it's the other way round.

Why they would replace one of the most iconic children channels logos of all time is beyond me. Even Cartoon Network with its ever-growing pleasure to show live-action shows still manages to keep the name and have a fresh new take on its old logo every decade or so (by the looks of it anyway) based on the original design.

Ya' know, it's up there with the Disney Channel logo. All three networks have managed to take fresh new looks on their old logos, appealing to a new generation each time.

The current glossy Nick logo, bouncy CN logo, and 3D-ish DC logo types work brilliantly on print and on screen - online or offline. Why Nick needed to go to the expense of creating a boring, old-looking new logo is just thought-provoking.

One word: Why. Why?

I like it. It looks sleek and modern.
